Each family of students in Grades 1-8 is required to work as a cafeteria helper. Parent cafeteria helpers assist a staff person from Food Service Consultants, Inc. serve food, sell milk/juice, and help with general clean-up at the end of lunch. Details concerning responsibilities, times, and dates are provided by the Cafeteria Coordinator on a regular basis and through newsletter up-dates. Buy-out fees are required for families unable to carry out this responsibility.
Supervision guidelines and student behavior expectations during lunchtime have been put in place by the school which allow us to serve a large number of children in an orderly, timely, and respectful manner. These guidelines and expectations are communicated to all students at the beginning of the school year. Parent cafeteria workers are expected to support the staff cafeteria monitors in their efforts. While interaction with your children is certainly acceptable and a plus while working cafeteria, it should occur at a time and in a manner that is not counter to what the staff cafeteria monitors are trying to accomplish. Cafeteria workers are also asked to not sit at student tables while the children are eating.

The St. Louis County Health Department has restrictions regarding children in the kitchen while lunch is being served. Unannounced periodic inspections occur throughout the school year. For the safety of all involved, when on cafeteria duty, please arrange for childcare for your preschoolers. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
